It is the Tuscan city famous above all for the leaning tower. The tower is the bell tower of the Romanesque marble cathedral that stands nearby, in Piazza dei Miracoli. It is said that this marble cylinder was already off-axis as soon as it was completed in 1372. The leaning tower is the monument that makes Pisa famous all over the world and climbing to its top is certainly an experience not to be missed! We then recommend a visit to the nearby Cathedral and the Baptistery.
Along the perimeter of Piazza dei Miracoli there are also the Museum of the Opera del Duomo and the Camposanto. You can continue with a nice walk along the Arno and reach the ancient Palazzo dell’Orologio.
For exhibition lovers we recommend Palazzo Blu which always hosts very thick temporary exhibitions. For those who like to walk we mention the Walls of Pisa which in recent years have been greatly re-evaluated and made available for visits. Access is from the Torre di Santa Maria.
For those who have more time available we recommend a visit to the Certosa di Calci located in the nearby pretty valley. The Charterhouse is a place rich in history and art that hosted the Carthusian order from the fourteenth to the twentieth century.
